First of all, we hope that all our readers had a Happy & Full Thanksgiving!

Our last issue contained a poll asking how satisfied you are in your Hospitality career.
The results are in and here's what we found..

The top 3 most important aspects of a career:

Salary - 76.7%
Life/Work Balance - 75%
Atmosphere - 68.3%

A shocking 35% of respondents indicated that they are NOT happy in their current job. 27.5% said they were happy and 13.3% said they were unsure.

This means that over one third of those who took our poll are unhappy in their jobs. Yikes.

Just over one quarter of the respondents indicated that they were satisfied. Now if only one could bottle that happiness factor and spread the love. (You can and we can help - more on this below)

Even more troubling - a whopping 60.5% of respondents have looked for work outside the company in the last 90 days!!

As expected, Internet Job Boards were the biggest resource for employment opportunities. 36.8% of respondents found their jobs online. Networking has also proven effective for some - 28.2% found their jobs this way. Other sources were so low that they do not warrant comment.

Finally, the vast majority of respondents were management (33.1%), followed by middle level employees (24%) and directors (14.9%).

 

These results show that all is not rosy out there in the world of Hospitality. And what is more important than having a happy workforce? So many keys to your success depend on employee satisfaction - productivity, loyalty and reduced turnover, reputation, the guest experience, a non-stressed HR department.. we could go on.
